Molecular basis of plant architecture;

Metabolic basis of plant domestication

4 RESEARCH SUMMARY:

The improvement in plant architecture plays a vital role during crop domestication and breeding. Understanding the molecular mechanism underlying the plant architecture will not only bring fresh knowledge to plant science, but will also facilitate the breeding of high-yielding crop varieties in practice. My research interests mainly focused on the elucidation of the molecular basis of plant architecture. Research contributions included but not limited to: 1) characterization of DWARF 53 (D53) act as the repressor of strigolactone (SL) signaling in rice, and proposing a framework for molecular mechanism underlying SL in the regulation of rice tillering; 2) exploring the roles of an unknown signaling molecule that affects plant architecture in plant coping with leaf senescence and drought tolerance. These results have been published in high-profile journals including nature and plant physiology. The discovery of D53 as a repressor of SL signaling was a landmark research in the SL research field. It is one of the high-cited papers authorized by ESI. This research was awarded “top 10 scientific achievements of 2014”.
